Nov. 3-5 : Fall Meeting 2006

 

Dayton Newspaper Guild, which now has a web site, welcomed the brothers and sisters of The Newspaper Guild Great Lakes District Council, Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006.

Meeting called to order at 9:40 a.m. by President Fisher.

Secretary’s Report: M. Vellequette, S. Stephens to approve minutes with corrected spelling of Yuvonne Bruce-Webb’s name. Passed.

President Fisher reminded locals to add their websites to the GLDC website and update the mailing list.

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Yuvonne Bruce-Webb Reported balances of $1,580.86 and $2014.25 in checking and CD, respectively and indicated . M. Webb, S. Covarrubias to accept report. Passed.

Old Business: none.

New Business: Stephens noted that Richard Peery, longtime president of Local One and an active member of the Great Lakes District Council, is retiring. Stephens indicated that there will be a retirement dinner for Peery. M. Stephens S. Webb for the GLDC to purchase a plaque or small memento to honor Peery’s service to the GLDC. Passed.

Appointment of New Human Rights Committee representative: M. Bucsko, S. Stephens to appointment Natalie Hill from the Pittsburgh Local as the GLDC representative on the Human Rights Committee. Passed.

NextGen: President Fisher suggested that the following NextGen meeting tentatively will be in Buffalo in February.

Toledo Lockout: M. Webb, S. Murphy to donate $250 to the Toledo Council of Newspaper Unions Locked Out Worker Relief Fund. Passed.

Presidents Award: President Fisher presented the award to Larry Vellequette for the ongoing boycott.

Thank you presentation to the Dayton Newspaper Guild for its work in reviving its contract efforts. President Fisher also thanked longtime Dayton President Rob Modic for his tireless efforts to secure a contract with the Dayton Daily News.
