And the winners are...

Rebecca Mack and Margaret J. Krauss.

Each senior wins a $1,500 scholarship.

Rebecca, of Washington, Pa., is a Duquesne University journalism and international relations major who has worked on The Duquesne Duke and belongs to the International Relations Club and Golden Key International Honor Society.

Margaret, of Pittsburgh, is an English writing and Spanish major at the University of Pittsburgh. She has worked on The Original Magazine and The Pitt News and belongs to the poetry club, STAND, the Pitt Outdoor Club and the Red Eye Theater Project. Congratulations to Rebecca and Margaret!

The scholarship committee was chaired by Guild member Pat Peters.

The two $1,500 scholarships are available to talented students who want to work in print journalism in fields such as reporters, copy editors, photographers, paginators or graphics designers.

Applicants must be enrolled in a journalism program or its equivalent. They must attend a four-year college or university and must have completed four semesters.

Applicants must be from Western Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties) OR must attend a college or university within those counties.

Reflecting its steadfast commitment to the work of tomorrow's journalists, the Guild increased its financial stipends to $1,500 to each recipient in 2001 -- double their original size.
